B1A4 (Korean: 비원에이포; Japanese: ビーワンエイフォー) is a three-member boy group under WM Entertainment. Originally as five, they debuted on April 23, 2011 on MBC's Show! Music Core performing "O.K." from their first mini album Let's Fly. Their group's name has dual meanings: the member's blood types and "Be the one (B1), All for one (A4)".

History[]

2011: Debut with Let's Fly, It B1A4[]

  • The members of B1A4 were introduced through webtoons available on their official website. The webtoons featured another character named Anna, who was rumored to be the female lead as well.
  • On April 20, they introduced their debut single, "O.K.", which later made headlines among K-pop fans. Although it has not yet charted, the song has generated a lot of buzz.
  • On April 21, the group made their debut as five members with the release of their first mini album, Let's Fly. They then held their debut stage on Show! Music Core two days later.
  • On June 22, they appeared on MTV's Match Up!'s first season alongside another new group, Block B. With eight episodes, the show allows both groups to showcase their musical talents and hidden charms through weekly assignments and behind-the-scenes videos of their daily lives as newcomers. The program also revealed their follow-up promotional single, "Only Learned the Bad Things", which was released on July 13, 2011.
  • On September 16, they made their first-ever comeback with their second mini album, It B1A4. Its lead single, "Beautiful Target," which is composed by Jinyoung, with Baro and CNU on the rap parts, is highly anticipated to have received 1 million views on YouTube within a week.
  • In October, B1A4 announced their debut in Japan under the record label Pony Canyon. Prior to their debut, they held their Japan Showcase Live 2011 at the Sinagawa Stellar Ball in Tokyo on December 9, 2011. The tickets for the event sold out within one minute, an unprecedented feat for newly debuted groups. They performed nine songs at the event, which was attended by 1,000 people. At the end of the year, they won the Rookie of the Year Award at Tower Records' K-Pop Lovers! Awards 2011.

2012: Ignition and repackage, Japanese debut, In The Wind[]

  • On March 14, they made their comeback with their first full-length album, Ignition. They then made a speedy comeback with its repackage edition, Ignition (Special Edition), on May 24. The songs "Baby I'm Sorry" and "Baby Good Night" served as the albums' respective title tracks for their promotions.
  • On April 23, WM Entertainment announced that the group had signed a contract with Pony Canyon to begin their activities in Japan by the end of June. They then made their formal Japanese debut with the single "Beautiful Target" on June 27.
  • On August 29, they released their second Japanese single, "Oyasumi Good Night," before their first Japanese full-length album, 1, was announced to be released on October 24.
  • Following the end of their promotional activities in Japan, B1A4 released their third mini album, In The Wind, on November 12, 2012, using the title track "Tried To Walk" as the main promotional track.
  • On October 12, WM Entertainment announced that B1A4 would hold their first solo concert, BABA B1A4. It was held on December 8–9, 2012, at the SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium. 

2013: What's Happening, "Ige Musun Iriya - Nande? Doushite?"[]

  • On May 6, they made their comeback with the release of their fourth mini album, What's Happening?.
  • On June 19, WM Entertainment announced B1A4's second solo concert, AMAZING STORE. The concert presents a new story-telling concept as well as B1A4 directly performing with a live band. It took place from August 7 to 11 at the Uniqlo AX, with 2,000 fans attending each day.
  • On August 28, their third Japanese single "Ige Musun Iriya - Nande? Doushite?" was released.

2014: Who Am I, 2, Solo Day, "Solo Day -Japanese ver.-"[]

  • On January 13, they released their second full-length album, Who Am I, before they announced their second Japanese full-length album, 2, which was set for release on March 19.
  • On February 15 and 16, they held their exclusive concert, The Class, at the SK Olympic Handball Stadium at Olympic Park.
  • On April 5 and 10, they held a concert series, Listen To The B1A4, in Yokohoma and Osaka, Japan. It was streamed on the Japanese video-streaming site Nico Video.
  • On May 3, they performed in the United States for the first time with their appearance at the Los Angeles 12th Korean Times Music Festival.
  • Following the release of their second Japanese full-length album, B1A4 announced their fifth mini album, Solo Day, to be released on May 14. The Japanese version was later released as a single on September 10.

2015: "Shiroi Kiseki", Sweet Girl[]

  • On January 21, they released their fifth Japanese single, "Shiroi Kiseki".
  • On August 10, they made their comeback with their sixth mini album, Sweet Girl.

2016: 3[]

  • On March 16, they released their third Japanese full-length album, 3.

2017: "Follow Me", 4, Rollin'[]

  • They made two Japanese comebacks in 2017 with their eighth single, "Follow Me", and their fourth Japanese full-length album, 4, on May 24 and June 14, respectively.
  • After not making any comebacks in South Korea in 2016, B1A4 finally made their return with their seventh mini album, Rollin', on September 25, 2017, making this release their only 2017 comeback.

2018: "Aerumade", 5, contract renewal, departure of Jinyoung and Baro[]

  • They released their ninth and tenth Japanese singles, "Do You Remember" and "Aerumade", on February 7 and April 10, 2018, respectively. They then released their fifth Japanese full-length album, 5, on June 27.
  • On June 30, members Jinyoung and Baro left WM Entertainment after deciding not to renew their contracts. Both members would also not be promoting as B1A4 for the time being following their departure. The three remaining members renewed their contracts and would continue to promote as a trio.

2020: Origine[]

  • On September 30, WM Entertainment announced that the group would be making their comeback as a full group of three members with a full-length album in late October. Then, on October 19, the group released their fourth Korean full-length album, Origine.

2021: "10 Times", "Adore You"[]

  • They released two digital single albums in 2021, "10 Times" for their 10th anniversary on April 23 and "Adore You" on November 10 for member Sandeul's enlistment the following day.

2023: CNU's contract renewal[]

  • On March 13, CNU renewed his contract with WM Entertainment, while Gongchan was also revealed to have been reportedly exempt from enlisting in the military service due to health concerns.

2024: Connect[]

  • On December 5, 2023, E-Daily reported that B1A4 would be making their first comeback in over two years with a new song in January 2024. WM Entertainment later confirmed the reports. On December 19, the group announced that they would be releasing their eighth mini album, Connect, on January 8, 2024.
